Ahhhh, March. It’s the sweetest month of the year in Vermont. Why? It’s sugaring season, of course! After all, we look forward to this time of the year much like leaf peepers anticipate fall in the Green Mountain State. Now is when the sap is flowing and turned into liquid gold, and you won’t want to miss the VT Maple Open House Weekend in 2018!
Before we begin, take a look at this map for locations of participating sugar houses.
The warm temperatures in Spring enables the maple trees to turn starch into sugar. The sap is made as the tree mixes ground water with the sugar and is mostly crystal clear with containing about 2% sugar.
