Before there was social media, there were the drive-ins. A place to socialize with people from town and visitors passing by. Al’s French Frys has been that spot for decades for many Vermont locals. Located in South Burlington, Al’s French Frys has been serving up burgers and fries for years and years.
Al's French Frys was started by Al and Genevieve Rusterholz in the late 1940's.
They first got famous for their amazing french fries, but quickly after, their hamburgers also became a fan favorite. Back then, people had to eat outside or in theirs cars as there was no area inside to dine in.
In the 1980's, the restaurant changed ownership.
The restaurant was purchased by Bill and Lee Bissonette in 1983. Back then, burgers were as cheap as 85 cents!
Today, Al's French Frys continues to be a local and statewide favorite for visitors passing by.
Though the name emphasizes french fries, they're also popular for their burgers.
Double bacon cheeseburger, anyone?
And from April to October, they serve amazing soft serve ice cream creations.
The Maple Madness sundae is a fan favorite! Al's serves ice cream until Halloween. They'll start serving ice cream again in the spring.
They've also been voted as having the best french fries in Vermont a number of times.
See what the hype is about when you order a side of fries with your hamburger. They have just the right amount of crunch, salt, and potato.
