The thing about stereotypes is that they’re kind of true. Not always, but often enough where many folks can relate. There are certainly some true stereotypes in VT that may be a little embarrassing, but also kind of true. Let’s call a spade a spade for a moment and have fun with these things that we can’t help but agree to.
1. If it's above freezing, shorts are perfectly acceptable.
While many of us might not do this, it doesn't mean we couldn't if we wanted to. Vermonters are tough like that.
2. We can spot a flatlander from a mile away.
Maybe it's the use of the word "wicked" or someone who loves to use their car horn, but they can be pretty easy to spot.
3. We love our Maple Syrup so much that we'll add it to just about anything.
After all, it IS amazingly delicious.
4. We don't get snow days!
While this is an overstatement, we've certainly spend more than a few hours digging out our cars the morning after a storm to get the kids to school on time. However, we'll all certainly roll our eyes when we hear southern states closing schools for 2" of snow. That: We can all agree on, right?
5. Vermonters, particularly rural Vermonters with deep roots, have an accent.
Pictured is the Green "Moun-ain" State. Ay yup!
6. We wear plaid.
Well, we do. It's cozy, warm and oh-so-comforting. It's not all plaid, all the time, but yes, a Vermonter will probably have a plaid item of clothing in their wardrobe.
7. We don't like outsiders.
We're actually really friendly... Until you move here try to change our way of life. Then? Not so much.
8. Vermonters love their craft beer.
When the budget allows, it's all about the craft beer. If you don't drink beer, you at least know that we work hard at making the best of the best, so you'll appreciate the effort involved.
9. We see someone we know wherever we go.
Definitely true in your own town, but Vermonters tend to plant roots here. This means wherever you go you just may run into an old friend.
10. We are farmers or at least know a farmer.
Don't think this applies to you? Have you been to a farmers market? Yes? Then you've met a farmer.
11. Mud season is an actual season.
We just have to grin and bear it.
12. We hate haters.
"Hate" is a strong word, but people who hate Vermont... Just talk to the hand.
