It’s not every day that you see a sculpture of whale tails on the side of the road. If you happen to be near Burlington, Vermont and driving near exits 12 and 13 on Interstate 89, keep your eye out for Reverence – a unique sculpture of whale tails that’s worth a stop.

Jim Sardonis was commissioned by a local developer to sculpture Reverence. In order to create his one-of-a-kind art, Sardonis used 36 tons of African black granite. And while art is open to interpretation, Whale Tails is meant to symbolize the earth’s fragility.

Today, Whale Tails is known as one of the most unusual roadside attractions in both Vermont and the country. Therefore, plan to make a visit the next time you’re in the area. And, if you have the time, walk along the nearby 1.7 path that passes by the sculpture too.

If you stop by to check out these unique sculptures on a clear day, it might look like you're looking at whales from a distance in the ocean.
