Where can you find the best fall festival in the United States? According to USA Today, it’s right here in Vermont. Here’s why one fun Green Mountain State tradition has been voted the most epic fall celebration in the entire country.
USA Today has confirmed what Vermonters probably already know – this state is the king of fall fun.
The publication has just announced that Stowe’s annual Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival is the best fall festival in the country. It beat out hundreds of other celebrations to claim the top spot.
The festival itself is a time-honored local tradition. Every autumn, Snowflake Mountain Resort allows visitors to show up with pumpkins and catapults to see who can fling their gourds the farthest.
Yup, for real. This festival is all about loading pumpkins into DIY trebuchets, slings, and other contraptions in order to hurl them as far as possible. As you might imagine, the atmosphere is zany and the results are hilarious.
Besides pumpkin chucking, the festival offers lots of live music, crafts and activities for all ages, and a chilling cook-off that will warm you right up. Each competitor supplies a vat of homemade chili and the festival attendees vote on the best recipe.
Admission to the 2019 festival is $10 for everyone five years old and up. Kids four and under can get in free. Dogs and outside food or beverages are not allowed, but feel free to bring your own chairs, blankets, or umbrellas.
This year’s festival will be held on September 29, 2019 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Visit the Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival website for more information about the experience, including a full schedule of events and parking information.
