What are the best spots to go camping in Vermont?

Vermont has several dozen state parks, a handful of state forests, and plenty of natural areas to enjoy camping. Here are a few of the best spots to go camping in Vermont:

  • Smugglers' Notch State Park, Stowe, VT: Smugglers' Notch not only has a fascinating history as a path through the mountains for smugglers in the 1800s, but it has some of the best hiking in the state. As natural wonders go, you really can't beat the impressive 1,000-foot cliffs, multiple caves, and of course, the tallest peak in Vermont - Mount Mansfield. When you go camping in this state park there are lots to see and do.
  • Green River Reservoir State Park, Hyde Park, VT: A cool paddle-in campground on the Green River Reservoir is the kayak camper's dream. This beautiful area is a little on the primitive side but it is a fantastic area for camping if you enjoy roughing it. The reservoir is quiet and calm and used primarily for non-motorized watercraft. (Electric motors up to 5 mph are allowed.)
  • Grand Isle State Park, Grand Isle, VT: This is one of the most popular state parks in Vermont, and typically has the most visitors each year than any other state park. With 115 tent and RV sites plus 36 lean-tos and a handful of cabins, it is Vermont's second largest state park. Lake Champlain is the highlight of the park so kayaking, fishing, and swimming are a big draw.
  • Parker Hill Farm Boutique Campground, Springfield, VT: If you are looking for a little more luxurious camping experience, a pretty cozy glamping tent awaits. This farm has been caring for the land and its animals since 1790! Now you can share in the fun of farm life on this alpaca and Wagyu cattle farm.
