People from Vermont will be the first ones to tell you all the things they do better than anyone else, and for good reason. Whether you were born here or whether you married a Vermonter , we all know people from the 802 are awesome. However, there are a few things Vermonters are hesitant to admit out loud to break the illusion. Here are a few things you won’t hear often:
1. That they don't know how to ski.
Vermont may have the best skiing in the east, but it doesn't mean we all do it. Shhhhh!
2. That the hike may be too much for them to handle.
When you live in Vermont, you don’t necessarily need a gym membership, and it’s easy to be active all the time. But everyone isn’t always as active as their Instagram would indicate.
3. They may be jealous of people in tropical places.
Especially when it's -20 degrees.
4. That they've spent the entire weekend INDOORS.
Vermont is known as an outdoor mecca for outdoorsy folks. Staying indoors is not something we brag about.
5. That maple syrup is too sweet.
That's just blasphemy!
6. That any state could have mountains as beautiful as Vermont.
OK, there may be beautiful mountains elsewhere, but are the people as excellent?
7. They don't recycle.
Wait! Everyone does, right?!
8. That they have an accent.
Is it "mountain" or "mounin?" Never mind, let's just get a creemee.
9. They get road rage.
We don't have much traffic, but hey, you've got to go... (Get it? Hey?)
10. They don't like Mac & Cheese.
Everyone likes Mac & Cheese, right?!
11. That they may not want to live in Vermont forever.
Come on! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
12. People from Vermont will never admit that tourists benefit our economy.
Yes, we know our livelihood depends largely on tourism... but still...
13. They love flatlanders.
Yeah, you'll never hear a Vermonter admit that!
Vermonters are not ones to beat around the bush… However, there are a few things that you’ll never catch us admitting out loud.
