When the leaves start to change colors, Vermont’s natural beauty tends to find a way to get even more beautiful. For the perfect scenic hike in fall that includes a waterfall, head over to Lye Brook Wilderness area in Manchester, Vermont.

Getting to Lye Brook Wildnerness area is almost as scenic as the hike itself.

The Lye Brook Trailhead is located just off of Route 7 in Manchester. You'll take Route 7 to East Manchester Road for about 1 miles and then turn left onto Glen Road, just before an overpass. Follow Glen Road and veer right at the fork onto the Lye Brook Access Road. You'll be able to park in the parking lot and begin your hike at the trailhead east of the parking lot.
Lye Brook Wilderness makes up for about 15,680 acres within the Green Mountain National Forest.

The lush forestry turns into a fall foliage painting during the months of October and November.
The hike is 4.6 miles, round trip.

The trail is well-marked and utilized old logging railroad grades and old woods roads as it travels up a steady gradual slope.

The first part of the trail is old logging roads and the second part is a spur trail.

You'll reach the spur trail about 0.5 miles in and take the remaining 1.8 miles to the waterfall.
Look out for the wild ferns that grow along the wildnerness area.

Lye Brook Falls is 125-feet high and considered one of the tallest waterfalls in Vermont. Climbing the rocks is highly discouraged as they tend to be very slippery and could cause a serious fall. For the best view of the waterfall, visit a day or two after a good rainfall. It'll make the waters flow down the rocks even more.
