It’s kind of hard to hide something that’s huge, but Lake Willoughby is so tucked away in the NEK so we’d consider it pretty secluded. This hidden spot in VT is perfect if you’re looking for wonderful photo ops, great hiking trails or a swim on a hot summer day. Lake Willoughby is a wonderfully scenic spot that you’ll want to put on your bucket list for sure.
It's no surprise why Lake Willoughby is listed as a National Natural Landmark.
Flanked by mountains on either side, this spot is a photographers paradise.
It is known for its crystal clear - and chilly - water.
As well as the vibrant sunsets.
Oh, those colors!
There are numerous hiking trails nearby. Check out this incredible view from Pulpit Rock!
If you check it out in the winter, you'll surely want to come back for the beaches in the summer.
Be sure to get on the lake as well as in it!
Did you know that in 1915, Robert Frost mentioned Willoughby in the poem "A Servant to Servants?"
"I see it's a fair, pretty sheet of water,
Our Willoughby! How did you hear of it?
I expect, though, everyone's heard of it.
In a book about ferns? Listen to that!"
Even the drive to Lake Willoughby is stunning!
Be sure to try and spot the waterfall along the road.
