Vermont is full of big things, we have large towering mountains and tall cascading waterfalls. But there are also some oddly gigantic things that deserve a second look. These larger-than-life items are whimsical attractions that not only cause you to stare and also, more often than not, draw you to pull out your phone to take a picture. Head on down to Flynn Street in Burlington to check out the world's tallest filing cabinet. This towering sculpture was built in 2002 by Bren Alvarez by welding a series of real filing cabinets together. The creation stands 38 feet tall.
The largest zipper in the United States is sandwiched between two buildings in Barre. Created by artist Chris Miller in 2013, the sculpture is composed of native granite and called "Unzipping the Earth." Find the 74-foot long zipper with plants between the teeth on Main Street.
Against the surrounding landscape, this rescued and preserved steamboat is larger than life. Located at the Shelburne Museum, a hole was actually excavated to hold the Ticonderoga in an attempt to diminish its size otherwise, visitors would constantly be looking upwards to see the exhibit.
Take a gander at the quirky lady squirrel who welcomes visitors to the Lake Dunmore Kampersville in Salisbury. She sports an old-fashioned bathing suit and towers over the furry friends that her likeness mimics.
This giant jack is far too big and too heavy to toss. Constructed out of fire hydrants fused together and painted bright red, this roadside attraction is a playful sight. Find it across the street from the Shelburne Firehouse.
View the whale tales as you cruise down Interstate 89 in South Burlington. The granite tails are called "Reverence" and are intended to symbolize how fragile our planet is.
