Did you know that Vermont is home to the Chazy Reef, which is the world’s oldest biologically diverse reef in the history of Earth? Located in the picturesque Isle La Motte, the 450-million-year-old reef is protected by the Fisk Quarry Preserve and the Goodsell Ridge Preserve and has also been awarded a National Natural Landmark status. Visiting the preserves is a great activity for people of all ages, and is one of the most important geological wonders right here in VT.
On the northern most island, Isle La Motte, is the Chazy Reef which is 450 million years old.
The Goodsell Ridge Preserve and the Fisk Quarry Preserve are part of the Isle La Motte Preservation Trust and they encourage research, education and public appreciation of the reef.
From Memorial Day through Columbus Day, enjoy the Walk Through Time. This is is a world class outdoor exhibit on which some 80 colorfully illustrated panels are set up along a 4,600 foot trail.
