It’s only natural for people to want to come and visit Vermont. Why wouldn’t they? We have natural beauty, amazing restaurants, and an endless supply of outdoor activities. So with the tourists come the questions… and some things require a little explanation. Here are a few that we have had to explain about VT more than once.
1. Not everyone in Vermont lives on a farm.
Yes, there are a lot of farms here, but many of us live in actual houses.
2. Resourceful is our middle name.
OK, not literally our middle name, but we can find a solution for just about anything. Need to move wood but don't have a car? No problem!
3. We're smarter than you think.
We don’t like to brag, but we can find a way to fix just about anything.
4. What’s farm to table?
It’s fresh, local and definitely not like those chain restaurants.
5. The key is in the car.
Vermont is a very safe place, and in many communities people leave everything from their homes to their cars unlocked. Often with the keys in it!
6. We all recycle here.
And we notice when you throw away plastic bottles. Shame on you!
7. Don't beep!
We typically don't use our car horns here. But if you absolutely have to, please don't lay on it! A short beep will do.
8. We have ethnic food restaurants.
It’s not ALL mac & cheese and craft beer.
9. What is sugar on snow?

Oh, it's the tastiest treat! However, it's up to you whether you follow it up with a donut or a dill pickle.
10. What state is Vermont in?
Ok, this one we hear when we aren't in Vermont, but the fact that people have no idea what or where we are can get on our nerves.
11. Be prepared on your hikes.
Don't underestimate our mountains - be sure you wear appropriate clothes, bring water and follow the trails.
12. We do have other seasons besides winter.
Sometimes it doesn’t feel like it, but our springs bloom some of the most beautiful gardens, summers are spent in swimming holes, and the beauty of fall is known around the world.
13. Yes, mud season is a real thing.
It's between winter and spring when the snow melts and everything turns to mud. It's also when you want to plan a trip out of town, just to remind you of how much you love Vermont.
14. What we mean when we say “Knee high by the 4th of July.”
It’s how we know if the corn is growing at the right rate. Next 4th you’ll see for yourself!
15. What's a creemee?
It’s a soft serve ice cream and it’s the perfect way to cool down on a summer day.
16. There are actually a lot of cool things to do here.
You might see wide open spaces, vast mountain ranges and peaceful lakes, but we see a multitude of options for exploring.
