Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and we certainly agree – especially when there are such great breakfast spots in Vermont to choose from. We’ve gathered some of our favorite places to grab some eggs and a hot cup of joe, but there are so many delicious places we had to split our list into two parts! Don’t see your favorite breakfast here? Be sure to check back and see if your favorite is on our Part 2 tomorrow!
1. The Porch TOO - 648 Putney Road, Brattleboro
From the moment you walk in the door to the time your food arrives, it all comes together when you sit in the afterglow of the feast you just ate! They also have daily fresh baked treats, often made with seasonal offerings.
2. Cup N Saucer -
Dover Road, Wilmington
A classic breakfast spot with hand written specials over the open kitchen and counter seating. The tasty biscuits are light and fluffy and the pumpkin pancakes are the perfect balance of flavors.
3. Papa Pete's - 1104 Woodford Road, Bennington
People initially come to try their world famous giant pancakes, and they never leave disappointed. The service is always friendly with a down-home local vibe and the food is legendary.
4. Sugar and Spice - 45 Rt 4 E, Mendon
Sugar and spice and everything nice, that's what this place is made of! The pancakes are all served with VT maple syrup, and they actually charge you more if you want a sweetener that is not real VT maple syrup. This is something that all Vermonters can stand behind on principle!
5. Crows Bakery & Opera House Cafe - 73 Depot Street, Proctorsville
This kind of place is why people come to Vermont. You step inside this old time bakery and just enjoy the smell. Don't worry, everything tastes as good as it smells (and looks)!
6. Eaton’s Sugar House - 5894 Vt Rt 14, South Royalton
If you want quintessential Vermont, look no further than the wooded offbeat house with down to earth home cooking. There is a little gift shop inside with lots of maple products if you don't get our fill with the yummy pancakes and French toast. Naturally, it's all served with real VT maple syrup.
7. 3 Squares Cafe - 141 Main Street, Vergennes
The food here is healthy fresh imaginative and the seasonings and accompaniments are out of this world. Caffeine lovers will appreciate the thermoses of coffee and you can help yourself to all four varieties. The decor is eclectic and the food matches it, making 3 squares a real treat.
8. Kismet - 52 State Street, Montpelier
Kismet is where gourmet meets rustic. Whatever meal you have here is going to be great, but their farm to table weekend breakfasts are spectacular.
9. Handy’s Lunch - 74 Maple Street, Burlington
This small diner serves up some big dishes - most notably the Chuck Norris. It's one of the dishes we
dare you to finish ... if you can.
10. Sneakers Bistro - 28 Main Street, Winooski
Over the years, Sneakers has been pumping out some of the best breakfasts in all of Vermont. Enjoy all the classics, but at some point you MUST try the chicken and waffles. The crowds love it, and so do we!
11. Deb's Place - 345 Brooklyn Street, Morrisville
Along with good old fashioned breakfasts, Deb serves up fantastic lunches and the best kept secret in the area - unbelievable cakes made to order.
12. Miss Lyndonville Diner - 686 Broad Street, Lyndonville
If you've ever wondered why people have raved about Miss Lyndonville's Diner for years, just take a look at this Country fried steak, sausage gravy, hash browns, four eggs over easy, and homemade white toast. It's superb!
13. 158 Main Restaurant & Bakery - 158 Main Street, Jeffersonville
This is a fantastic breakfast spot housed in a very old building complete with the original flooring. Where else could you get a Vanilla bean grand marnier fried baguette French toast, with fresh maple syrup? Have a side of fluffy eggs, delicious rosemary home fries, and everything else you could ever want for the most important meal of the day.
