It’s known for its almost overwhelming natural beauty, and its picture-perfect, idyllic homesteads that make for perfect postcard photos. Another thing Vermont is known for, though, is its farms, and there are plenty of memorable farms to visit in Vermont if you haven’t already! Some of the most well-respected and rave-reviewed farms in Vermont include Sugarbush Farm, in Woodstock, which harvests and produces four different grades of genuine maple syrup (if you’ve never had real maple syrup, you’ve never lived; we don’t make the rules). Retreat Farm in Brattleboro is another gem, featuring old historic barns and wonderful tours you’ll never forget.

Other than the two mentioned above, there are plenty more, like the world-famous Shelburne Farms in Shelburne, which is a stunning 1400-acre working farm (as well as a forest and National Historic Landmark). Another fan favorite is Vermont’s world-class North Meadow Farm in Manchester, which is a state-of-the-art dairy farm and cheesemaking facility.

Vermont’s a tiny little state, but if there’s anything big about it (okay, except for the incredible scenic places), it’s our farms. Vermont is, at the time of this writing, home to 6,800 farm operations over 1.2 million acres. It’s perfect for raising livestock thanks to an ideal terrain, and dairy accounts for more than 70% of Vermont’s farming operations! Other things farmed in Vermont include apples, corn, and, of course, Vermont’s world-famous maple syrup. We already said it above, but it’s worth saying again: if you haven’t tasted real Vermont maple syrup, you have not yet lived.
