When was the last time you took the classic scenic drive down Zion Park Scenic Byway? If it’s been more than a year since you’ve done this magnificent drive, then hop in the car, stop by the gas station to fill up and grab some snacks, and get moving! This drive is truly one-of-a-kind, and we cannot recommend it enough.
We recommend starting your drive from St. George to get the full experience. The full drive is 54 miles and can be done in 1.5 hours. But, it will likely take longer because you will definitely want to stop for pictures.
From State Route 9, which runs through Zion National Park, wildlife can often be seen. If you are lucky, you may even get to see a free-roaming bison herd!
Once you are closer to the park, you will begin to encounter the rock formations that make Zion National Park so famous. The Checkerboard Mesa looks like it was carved by machine, and is unlike anything you've seen before!
After exiting the tunnel, you will be met with views of Zion Canyon. This moment is incredible. Try not to let your jaw hang open as you travel down into the canyon.
If you're up for it, we recommend bringing bikes with you. Once in the park, you can pull over and go for a gorgeous ride through Zion Canyon, right on the byway! Be sure to bring your helmet!
