I love spring. I love the warm weather, sunny days, and colorful blooms that start to appear. While you can go to places like Thanksgiving Point to see some of the best flower blooms in Utah, if you are like me, sometimes you don’t want to be surrounded by people — you want to go someplace where you can enjoy a little peace and quiet. That’s why I suggest a visit to Factory Butte Recreation Area in Utah. Here, you can not only find unique landscapes and excellent OHV opportunities, but this is one of the best places to see spring wildflowers.
Factory Butte is located east of Capitol Reef National Park, near the towns of Torrey and Hanksville. You will find it located off Highway 24.
Factory Butte will quickly catch your eye. It is a 6,302-foot monolith surrounded by incredible badlands. The area was once considered home to coal miners.
Today, it is a popular place for photographers due to the unique scenery everywhere you look. It is also well known for its OHV opportunities. For example, here you’ll find a 30-mile off-road path that takes you from Factory Butte Road to Old Hunt Ranch.
However, what many people don’t know is this area offers much more, especially in the spring. During this time of year, the desert flora blooms, creating a sea of color with a backdrop that you won’t find anywhere else.
And because this area is a bit remote and lesser-known, you may find you have space all to yourself, creating a delightful day in nature.
During a visit to Factory Butte in Utah, plan to spend some time exploring and learning. You’ll find interpretive kiosks at Factory Butte. However, be aware that there aren’t many amenities in the area.
Yes, you can visit places like Thanksgiving Point to enjoy spring flowers but if you want someplace away from the crowd, Factory Butte near Capitol Reef National Park may be the place to go. There’s nothing quite like the desert in full bloom.
Have you spent time at Factory Butte in Utah? What was your impression? Did you see the wildflowers? Let us know in the comments and feel free to share some of your photos. You can also learn more about the Factory Butte Recreation Area on the Bureau of Land Management website.
