Sometimes the best food comes from the strangest places. Here’s a little Mexican restaurant that’s located in a gas station, and it has the most delicious Mexican food you’ve ever had.
Whiptail Grill open in 2006, and quickly gained a reputation as the best Mexican restaurant in Springdale. It's located at 445 Zion Park Boulevard, right at the entrance to Zion National Park.
The building was originally built in 1965 as a Texaco gas station, but you'd hardly recognize it as a gas station now. It's covered in bright, colorful artwork, and surrounded by plants. It sits at the base of some gorgeous red rock cliffs.
Start with a huge, heaping plate of Whiptail Nachos. They come piled high with your choice of chicken, beef tenderloin, prawns or tofu.
The Goat Cheese Chili Relleno is a specialty here. It's a roasted Anaheim chili, filled with goat cheese then coated in panko and deep fried. Served with roasted tomatillo green chili sauce.
Everything on the menu is delicious, and the ingredients are fresh. You'll even find some vegan and vegetarian items here.
The tacos are so stuffed with meat, cabbage, onions, red peppers and fresca that you'll have a hard time finishing two. Choose from Fire Asada Tacos, Carne Asada Tacos, Fish Tacos, Grilled Chicken Tacos or Grilled Prawn Tacos.
The Whiptail Burrito is absolutely delicious; it's stuffed with veggies, cheese and meat and wrapped in a flour tortilla. Get yours smothered in roasted tomatillo green chili sauce.
When the weather is bad, you can dine inside, but otherwise you're going to want to sit on the patio, which is shaded by the gas station awning. The view is spectacular.
The next time you're in Springdale, visit Whiptail Grill for lunch or dinner. It's the perfect place to stop after a day of hiking at Zion National Park.
