Now that spring has officially arrived in Utah, it’s time to get out of the house and take a family day trip. Here’s a fun farm with a historic past that offers tons of activities.
The farmland known as Wheeler Farm was originally established in 1853. Henry Joseph Wheeler and his wife, Sariah purchased the farm in 1887. Today, it's managed and operated by Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation.
The 75-acre farm includes the original Wheeler farmhouse, built in the Victorian style in 1890. During your visit, you can tour the farmhouse, which is full of original antiques.
This place is a real working farm, with animals and agriculture.
Wheeler Farm produces many different kinds of vegetables and crops, and during the summer you can visit the farmers market to try some for yourself. The Sunday Market starts in June.
The grounds around the homestead and barn are beautiful, and perfect for a picnic.
During your visit, you'll find plenty to see and do. Try your hand at milking a cow.
Check out the antique farm machinery, which includes several tractors from decades past.
You'll find charming little touches all over the farm, including these cool wood carvings.
The kids will love a ride on the Cow Train.
Let the kids burn off some of that extra energy on the Playground Fort.
Say hello to the farm animals. Wheeler Farm isn't a petting zoo - these animals are actually part of the agriculture on the farm - but you'll be able to see horses, cows, sheep, goats, chickens and more.
Visit Wheeler Farm on May 5th for May Farm Fest. You'll find tons of baby animals, sheep shearing, farm demonstrations, live music, and food. The festival runs from 9 AM to 2 PM.
Wheeler Farm is located at 6351 South 900 East in Murray. It's open to the public during daylight hours, seven days a week. For more information, visit Wheeler Farms'
