Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Nestled within the town of Lehi, Utah, is a weird and wonderful museum that began as one man’s collection before it exploded into something far bigger over the decades. Originally, the collection included interesting specimens and oddities like taxidermized critters, fossils, and other things the founder – a man by the name of John Hutchings – had gathered and cared for over the years. In 1955, he donated his large and eclectic collection to the city, which then established the John Hutchings Museum & Institute. Today, it’s grown into quite the phenomenon! This eclectic museum in Utah is as interesting and unique as it is accessible and affordable.
The Hutchings Museum Institute isn't gigantic. In fact, we would almost say it's "compact", but don't let that fool you! There is plenty to do and see.
No matter your age group, you're sure to find something to love here, and so are the kids. Embark on an epic adventure within these walls.
You'll encounter several different exhibits in a small space, from fossils and taxidermized animal specimens to Native American art, tools, and more. It's almost like you'll find a little of everything.
At the time of this writing, some of the exhibits on display include Fossils: Ancient Life, Rocks and Minerals: Formation and Beauty, and several others.

Check out excellent specimens of amazing rocks, minerals, and gems, or admire the collection of amazing fossils the museum has to offer.
It's a reconstruction of the very first known home in the town of Lehi. They think that up to a dozen people once lived here. Talk about a cramped space! Learn lots more about pioneer and Native American life at the Hutchings Institute.
It also features awesomely educational live animal shows, which are definitely a fan favorite among visitors.
Come face-to-face with amazing critters like the African Pygmy Hedgehog (adorable), the Argentine Horned Frog (so cute), chameleons (woah), and even a tarantula or two (also woah!)
You'll also get a ticket to the past on your visit as well, as you marvel at the remains of dinosaurs who lived millions of years ago.
There are seriously so many things to do and see here that you might not believe it when you first arrive. Don't let the small size of the museum fool you. There's plenty to be experienced!
...and, of course, what eclectic museum would be complete without an eclectic gift shop? Remember to stop here at the end of your adventure to help support the museum.
Visit the museum’s website or Facebook page for more information, such as current hours and ticket prices.
