What are some of the best parks in Utah for hiking?
Utah is an amazing state for hikers. It’s home to more than 3,000 amazing trails, each of which has its own pros, cons, challenges, victories, and perks. Utah is truly some kind of paradise when it comes to the natural beauty department, and one of the best ways to really enjoy that is through the art of hiking. For example, Dead Horse Point State Park, in Moad, has amazing views from a mesa overlooking the nearby Canyonlands National Park and Colorado River. It’s a great place to go out and enjoy the wilderness in a fun and engaging way. At Goblin Valley State Park, you’ll trek through bizarre-looking hoodoos and amazing slot canyons nearby. Kodachrome Basin State Park, in Cannonville, is a geologically fascinating place (okay, okay... a lot of Utah is, but still) thanks to 67 enormous sedimentary pipes jutting up from the earth. They’re about 180 million years old, and if that’s not humbling, we don’t know what is! Finally, if you find yourself near Mexican Hat you might want to check out Goosenecks State Park, which is home to 300 million year old canyons and rock formations, as well as some of the best stargazing in the country.
What are some of the most underrated hiking trails in Utah?
...you mean other than the ones we mentioned above? Well, lucky for us, there are more than enough! Some of our other favorite hiking trails in Utah that tend to get less love than the more popular ones favored by tourists and locals alike include Horsetail Falls Trail, in Alpine, which is a wonderful 4.6-mile hike near Salt Lake City that’ll make you forget you’re so close to civilization. Lizard Lake Trail is scenic and beautiful, too, and can be found in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. It's 4.6 miles of moderately difficult hiking that features incredibly lush greenery and a beautiful lake. Also within Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest is the 2.9-mile Powerhouse Overlook Trail, which features amazing wildflowers and stellar views. It's quite possible that the best thing about hiking Utah is that you’ll probably never get bored.
