One of the many blessings of living in Utah is the ability to experience all four seasons. While you may certainly have a favorite, there is no doubt that every season of the year is breathtaking. While there are destinations all over the state where you can watch the seasons change, Little Cottonwood Canyon is one of the best. Each season in this canyon offers pure beauty and is worthy of a visit.
Little Cottonwood Canyon is approximately 25 miles from Salt Lake City. It is best known as home to two popular ski resorts: Snowbird and Alta.
However, Little Cottonwood Canyon has so much more to offer. This entire area is an outdoor lover’s paradise with camping, hiking, and rock climbing opportunities galore.
But, one of the best ways to explore Little Cottonwood Canyon is on a seven-mile scenic byway. This is a simple way to experience all four seasons in their beauty.

In the spring and summer months, you’ll see green forested areas and seas of color from the wildflowers. Some of the best wildflower views in this canyon are found at Albion Basin.
As you drive Little Cottonwood Canyon Scenic Byway in the fall, you can marvel at the vibrant orange, red, and yellow hues that are everywhere you look.
This is an easy, 1.8-mile out-and-back trail that takes you to a gorgeous alpine lake. This family-friendly hike is quite popular so we recommend visiting early in the day. But, it is well worth the adventure no matter the time of year. It’s the perfect place to immerse yourself in Utah’s natural beauty.
