Did you know you can walk with dinosaurs in Utah? At the St. George Discovery Site at Johnson Farm, you can walk among thousands of fossilized dinosaur footprints. But that’s not all. At this incredible museum, you will see several life-sized models of dinosaurs, rare impressions, and more. This dinosaur museum is the definition of a hidden gem in southern Utah and you need to check it out.
Located on Johnson Farm in St. George, this discovery site is essentially the coolest natural history museum in southern Utah.
This museum was founded by a local optometrist who, in 2000, was leveling out a hill on his property and discovered a layer of sandstone complete with dinosaur prints. Numerous tracks were found and the family opened the farm to the public to share the discovery. This site is the oldest Jurassic dinosaur site in Utah and the best basal Jurassic track site in all of North America!
While this museum is located on the Johnson Farm, this will not be a farming experience. Rather, you will be entering a comfortable building with dozens of incredible exhibits just waiting to be discovered.
The various exhibits will essentially take you on a trip to the Early Jurassic time period. The things you see will teach you more about the history of southern Utah and the world that we live in.
Another favorite area of this museum is the boardwalk. While you will get to see even more dinosaur tracks, there are also some incredible skin impressions and a rare crouching dinosaur impression that you won't want to miss.
Rather than simply take a trip to St. George, take a trip into the past — millions of years in the past. When you visit the St. George Discovery Site at Johnson Farm in Utah, you truly are walking with dinosaurs.
The St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site is open Wednesday through Monday and is closed on Tuesday. There is a small admission fee to enter. While this museum is self-guided, if you would prefer a guided tour, options are available, but reservations must be made in advance.
