Utah certainly doesn’t have any shortage of unique dining options. All over the state, there are some pretty incredible places to have a meal from themed restaurants to dining rooms located in historic buildings. But hidden in Salt Lake City is one restaurant that is one-of-a-kind and definitely worth visiting — Vertical Diner. This restaurant is where you can enjoy fresh and healthy ingredients, lots of flavors, and a menu that you won’t find in most restaurants around SLC.
Vertical Diner first began at the Salt Lake City Farmers' Market in the late 1990s. It moved into a brick-and-mortar building in 2007 and has since moved throughout the years. Today, you can visit the diner at 234 W 900 S in SLC.
This restaurant is unique as it offers a full plant-based menu. Approximately 90 percent of the menu is gluten-free and 30 percent of the ingredients are organic. Plus, this restaurant sources seasonal local produce.
All of the items on the menu at Vertical Diner are prepared in-house and made using this restaurant’s own recipes — so you really won’t find entrees like it elsewhere in the Salt Lake Valley. You also won’t find over-processed ingredients, modified oils, corn syrup, and artificial colors in your meal.

Vertical Diner is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Breakfast is served all day and you’ll find all types of incredible options on the menu like protein bowls, biscuits and gravy, breakfast burritos, and more.
For lunch or dinner, there are all types of options you can try like a burger, burrito, or sandwich. All lunch or dinner items are served with a single side that ranges from hand-cut French fries to macaroni and cheese and chunky chili.
One of the most popular items is Vertical Diner’s Dude Cakes, which features two pancakes stuffed with sausage, grilled peppers, onions, and mushrooms. It is then smothered in gravy and topped with fries.
Don’t forget to complement your meal with a cocktail, canned or draft beer, wine, coffee, tea, or a variety of non-alcoholic drinks. There is also an assortment of desserts including the Slight Threat, a banana pancake with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.
