Are you in pursuit of the perfect sandwich? Utah has plenty of delicious, local sandwich restaurants. Here are some of our favorites from the Beehive State’s most popular delis.
1. The "Do Gouda" Even Stevens, Multiple Locations
Even Stevens is a community-minded sandwich shop that donates a sandwich to charity for every one purchased. These sandwich shops have a cozy feel, and incredible food! The "Do Gouda" is one of the specialties here: roast beef, smoked gouda cheese, sweet onion marmalade, red onions and greens on sourdough bread. Multiple locations in Downtown Salt Lake City, Sugarhouse, Draper, Ogden, Logan, and St. George.
2. The Sensuous Sandwich Sensuous Sandwich, Provo and Oren
Sensuous Sandwich's offerings all have slightly naughty names (and all are as delicious as they are smutty). The flagship sandwich, The Sensuous comes loaded with ham, turkey, roast beef, jack cheese and veggies. Two locations: 1680 South State Street, Orem and 163 W Center Street, Provo.
3. The Big John Grove Market and Deli, Salt Lake City
Grove Market and Deli has been a neighborhood staple for years, and you'll see why once you visit. The sandwiches are humongous. The biggest of the big is the Big John which includes SEVEN deli meats (ham, bologna, turkey, salami, corned beef, pastrami and roast beef), plus Mayo, Mustard, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickle, Swiss, American, or Provolone Cheese, and Pepperoni Peppers. If that's still not enough, you can add red onions and jalapenos for no charge, bacon for an extra $1.50 and avocado for an extra $1. 1906 South Main Street, Salt Lake City.
4. The Catcher On Rye Ernie's Sports Deli, Orem
It's really hard to find just one sandwich to recommend from Ernie's, but we're going with the Catcher On Rye - the best pastrami on rye we've ever sunk our teeth into. The sandwich includes delicious pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and 1000 island dressing, served hot on thick rye bread. The restaurant is located at 192 W. Center Street
Orem, or visit the food truck all over town.
5. The Boilermaker Grinders 13, Salt Lake City
You won't find The Boilermaker on the menu, but if you ask for it you'll get the Texas Deluxe (hamburger, bacon, pastrami, American cheese, mayo and lettuce) with added onions and ALL the cheeses. 1618 S. State Street, Salt Lake City.
6. The Four Seasons The Italian Place, Logan
The signature sandwich at The Italian Place is The Four Seasons which includes steak, green peppers, onions, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and provolone. If you don't like mushrooms, order The Boston, which is exactly the same, but without the mushrooms. 48 Federal Avenue, Logan.
7. The Robin The Robin's Nest, Salt Lake City
Every sandwich on the menu at The Robin's Nest is tasty, but the signature Robin might be the best. Pastrami, Dijon, sauerkraut, dill pickle, Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing on rye. 311 S. Main Street, Salt Lake City.
8. Sweet & Spicy Pork The Lunch Box, St. George
The next time you're in St. George, you've got to stop by The Lunch Box. Try the Sweet & Spicy Pork with chipotle mayo and guacamole. 675 E. Tabernacle, St. George.
9. The Hot Meatball Granatos, Salt Lake City
Granatos Hot Meatball is made with homemade meatballs that are probably the best you'll taste anywhere. Served up with marinara sauce, provolone and Parmesan. Two locations in Salt Lake City: 1632 S. Redwood Road and 4044 S 2700 E.
10. The Barbacoa Buds, Salt Lake City
Buds is a great option for vegetarians. You've got to try the Barbacoa sandwich - it's actually grilled jackfruit, but you'd never know it.
11. BLT Wasatch Back Grill and Deli, Heber
We have to give Wasatch Back Grill and Deli the nod for their BLT - they've definitely got this one! Thick-sliced bread, toasted just right keeps this thing from getting soggy and the bacon is crisped to perfection. Sweet potato fries on the side make you happy, too! 550 W. 100 S., Heber.
