Lagoon has served as Utah’s quintessential amusement park since 1886, when it opened as Lake Park, near the Great Salt Lake. In 1899, it moved to its current location, and the park has added new rides and attractions ever since. These photos show how different it looked 25 years ago.

Early in lagoon's history, there were several drownings in this lake. In the 1990s, it was full of carp that you could feed with pellets, and you could ride around in the paddle boats.

Mother Hubbard's Shoe sat at the entrance to the kiddie ride area. This was back before kids watched Nickelodeon.

It's a pretty tame ride, compared to Cannibal and the other new rides in the park.

Pioneer Village hired guys to dress as cowboys and staged shootouts between the "Sheriff" and the "outlaws."

Lagoon once had a stadium where concerts were held. The Demolition Derby took place every Saturday.
