The Living Room Lookout Trail in Salt Lake City, Utah, is one of our favorite hiking trails when we are looking for a place to immerse ourselves in nature and forget about the difficulties of daily life. At just over two miles and with the most incredible views, this trail in Utah is the perfect escape.
The Living Room Lookout Trail is located in the foothills of Salt Lake City, just above the University of Utah. You’ll find the trailhead above Fort Douglas Post Cemetery, just off Colorow Road.
This out-and-back hiking trail is just over two miles, perfect for when you only have a short time to get away and escape from the challenges of daily life.
You will climb nearly 1,000 feet, making this trail a bit challenging. However, the extra effort will make you appreciate the final views even more.

The Living Room Trail is quite popular, which means this trail is heavily trafficked and easy to follow. However, if you find yourself wanting some quiet to think or unwind, we recommend tackling this trail during the week or first thing in the morning.
… but the majority of the trail offers very little cover from the sun. Always wear sun protection and bring plenty of water, especially if hiking under the hot Utah sun.
You will know you’ve reached the top due to the breathtaking views and the most interesting rock formations. In fact, many of the rocks look like chairs and couches, where you can sit and enjoy the scene in front of you.
