Decades ago, pioneers traveled through the canyon on their way to California and the Salt Lake Valley. The well-known Donner Party was actually the first wagon train to explore this area in 1846. Just one year later, pioneers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would also come through this canyon, following the Donner Party's trail.
