Many bookstores offer beverages and many cafes provide reading material. Yet to experience the best of both worlds, sometimes it is worthwhile to make two stops. That’s the case in the Salt Lake Valley town of Millcreek and the Salt Lake City neighborhood of Sugar House, where Marissa’s Books & Gifts and Tea Zaanti are located about 2 miles apart. Marissa’s is housed in a former tire shop, which provides a surprisingly bright and airy atmosphere. Tea Zaanti has indoor and outdoor seating and markets itself as Salt Lake City’s only tea and wine cafe. The combination of these establishments can make for a very enjoyable morning or afternoon, any time of year.
The garage doors of the former tire shop that occupied this property lend a unique look to Marissa's. The family-owned business moved from nearby Murray to Millcreek in 2020.
The store is known for themed displays, such as this Stephen King collection shown around Halloween. For more information about Marissa's Books & Gifts, visit the store's website and Facebook page.
The outdoor scene at Tea Zaanti is much different in seasons other than winter, with music performers often booked on weekend evenings. Zaanti is a Sanskrit word for "inner peace," and music contributes to that vibe.
If you're looking for traditional tea, the cafe has some great pairings with scones. For more information about Tea Zaanti, visit the cafe's Facebook page and website. And here are some other sights to see in Salt Lake City.
