Let’s face it: life can be stressful. Whether you’re running kids from one soccer practice to another, helping aging parents, or dealing with a demanding boss, there are often plenty of day-to-day issues to keep you on your toes. You might feel some pressure and anxiety in your life, but if you live in Salt Lake City you could be in a lot better shape than the average American.
The website SkinStore.com recently conducted a study to see which cities in the U.S. were the most stress-free, and Salt Lake City topped the list at number one!
Nestled at the foot of the stunning Wasatch Mountains, Salt Lake City is a beautiful place to live. The city is home to just under 200,000 people, and the Salt Lake City metro area has around 1,223,000 residents.
Its outdoor recreation opportunities, great job market, and safe neighborhoods have earned Salt Lake the number one spot in this recent study that ranks major U.S. cities from least stressful to most.
The survey was conducted by SkinStore.com, a company that offers skin and beauty products. Its products might help your skin combat issues like acne and eczema, but the site also notes that stress can take quite a toll on your complexion. Its recent study took a look at several different categories to come up with a ranking of least-stressed cities to most-stressed cities.

One way in which Utah shines is its working score. By and large, Utahns like their jobs and working conditions, and work a reasonable number of hours per week.
Utah ranked #2 overall in the "working" category, with a score of 75.2, just a touch behind the number one city for working conditions, Billings, Montana, which had a score of 79.4.
Safety is another major factor when it comes to stress. Salt Lake City residents enjoy a low crime rate. While it didn't come in at the top of the ranking, it came in close with a score of 62.48 (Minneapolis scored highest for safety, with a score of 64.43).
Safety factors included crime, road safety, workplace safety, financial security, and emergency preparedness.
Overall, people who live in Salt Lake City report a high level of happiness and satisfaction. While the study doesn't break down the specifics of this category, we can't help but feel that our plentiful outdoor recreation opportunities help!
Salt Lake City offers lots of green space, from its city parks to its hiking trails, lakes, and ski slopes. No matter where you live in the Salt Lake Valley, natural beauty is right outside your front door.
The only category in the survey where Salt Lake City's performance suffered was pollution. Poor air quality is a factor here, though our pollution index is much lower than other cities like Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Houston.
On a scale of 1 to 100, Salt Lake City scored 81 - more than 5 points higher than the next city on the list. Indianapolis came in second, at 75.4. This recent study is just one more reason to love Utah, and its capital city!
