Every year, the folks at Safewise compile crime data from all over the country to find the safest cities in the U.S. (and the safest cities in each state). Take a look – is your city listed?
Spanish Fork is rated as the safest city in Utah this year, up from second place last year. With a population of 40,604, it's a medium-sized city by Utah standards, and a great place to live. Violent crime in Spanish Fork was 0.2 per 1,000 people, and its property crime rate was 8.2.
Syracuse had the lowest property crime rate in the state last year, with just 196 total reported. Its violent crime rate was 0.8 per 1,000 residents. Syracuse has a population of 31,230.
A quiet community north of Salt Lake, Kaysville comes in at the third safest city in Utah. Its 32,691 residents experience a violent crime rate of just 0.7 per 1,000. Its property crime rate was 8.4.
The closest city to Salt Lake on this list, Bountiful is a pretty spot within close commuting distance to the state's capitol. It had a violent crime rate of 0.8, and a property crime rate of 10.1 per thousand last year.
North Ogden is a more rural town that Ogden City, and has just 20,352 residents. Its violent crime rate last year was 0.8, and its property crime rate was 10.0.
Locally known as "PG," Pleasant Grove is indeed a pleasant place to live. 1 in 1,000 residents experienced a violent crime last year, and 9.3 per thousand were victims of property crime.
Rural Clinton has just 22,544 residents, and a violent crime rate of 0.8 per thousand. Property crimes were a bit higher, with 13.3 residents per thousands experiencing theft.
Springville's violent crime rate is very low at just 0.6 per thousand, but its property crime rate is higher, at 14.9 per thousand residents - the highest on this list. Still, this rate is much lower than the average property crime rate in Utah, which is 21.7 per thousand people.
Though it's last on this list, Saratoga Springs is still one of the safest cities in Utah. It's home to 33,647 people, and had a violent crime rate of 1.6 last year. Its property crime rate was 7.7 per thousand residents.
Even if your city isn’t on this list, don’t worry – Utah is a pretty safe place to live. Just 2.4 people out of 1,000 experienced a violent crime last year, which is 35 percent lower than the national average. The Beehive State has the third-lowest property crime rate in the Mountain region (lower than both Wyoming and Idaho). In 2020, 21.7 Utahns per 1,000 experienced a property crime.
