Hanging out around the house sure does get boring…who’s up for a road trip? Here’s a trip that takes you to a beautiful lake, and you’ll have the best beach day ever. Gas up the car and let’s get out of here!
Bear Lake is one of Utah's most beautiful places. Located on the Utah/Idaho border, it's just northeast of Logan, and it's the perfect day trip for many Utahns. It's about 2.5 hours from the Salt Lake Valley to Bear Lake - you can add or subtract your own driving time from there.
You'll find Rendezvous Beach at Bear Lake State Park, and it's the perfect place to hang out in a beach chair, enjoying the cold, clear water, fresh air, and sunshine.
If you feel like exploring the lake, you'll find plenty of opportunities here. Spend some time on a paddleboard...
...go for a sail...
...paddle around on a canoe or kayak...
...or hop on an inflatable and let a boat do all the work.
Don't own a boat? No problem! Bear Lake Marina Rentals is just one of several companies in Garden City that offer daily rentals of boats, Sea-Doos, kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards.
At some point during the day, you'll need to head into Garden City for some lunch and a famous Bear Lake raspberry shake. There are a few places in town that offer them, and La Beaus Drive In is one of the best.
Bear Lake is known as the Caribbean of the Rockies because of its clean, clear water that has a distinct blue color. The color is due to calcium carbonate that's suspended in the water, and the lake truly is a Utah jewel shimmering against the mountains.
The kids will have a blast playing in the water, and finding treasures in the sand. Bring some buckets and sand toys, slather 'em up with sunscreen, and relax on the beach while they entertain themselves!
If they want to swim and bob in the water, you can even borrow a life jacket.
After playing all day, you'll be ready for a delicious dinner at Camp Fire Grill.
Try a tasty pizza, juicy burger, or dutch oven meal on the pretty, open-air deck under the shady tent.
At the end of the day, you might not be ready to leave this beautiful place. No problem! You can stay in a campground at the state park, or stay in a glamping tent or Conestoga wagon at Conestoga Ranch Glamping Resort for a unique adventure.
Have you road tripped to Bear Lake recently?
Another great place for a Utah road trip is the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. The next time you’re up there, check out this majestic waterfall that you can see without hiking.
