When the weather’s cold and the inversion makes everything gray and gloomy, you might want to hop on a plane to a warm, tropical destination. But if you don’t have the time or money for an island getaway, there’s a spot that’s the next best thing. Take a look at Provo Beach:
Don't let this shopping center location fool you; there's a hidden oasis behind these doors.
You'll find Provo Beach at 4801 N. University Ave., Provo, UT 84604.

You don't need an ocean to ride the waves. Grab your bathing suit and hop on the Flowrider. With 30,000 gallons of water pumping under your board, you'll feel just like you're at the ocean.
When you're done surfing, head over to the mini-croquet course, where you can stroll through the grassy terrain, knocking your colorful ball through the wickets.
The best beaches have boardwalks, and you'll often find a carousel to ride in the sunny, salty atmosphere. While there's no salty breeze, this carousel is just as fun.
Provo Beach is the perfect place to play on a winter day. Get a day passport for $20, which includes every activity except the Flowrider; a $30 passport includes an hour of Flowrider time, too. You can also choose just a few activities and pay for those a la carte, if you prefer.
Provo Beach is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.. Visit its website for more information, and follow its Facebook page to see special deals and promotions.
