There is nothing quite like spending time out in nature. A little fresh air, sunshine, and physical activity can do wonders for your mood and overall well-being. Near the city of Alpine is one nature trail that is going to create a delightful day outdoors. With stream crossings, meadows, and a waterfall finish, Horsetail Falls is one trail that is stunning but beware… you will need to put in some effort.
For a picture-perfect day outdoors, the Horsetail Falls Trail near the city of Alpine is one that deserves a spot on your bucket list. You will find this trailhead just above the rodeo grounds in Alpine, at the end of Grove Drive.
This trail is approximately five miles round trip. However, it is not for everyone as the trail is consistently steep. You will continually climb for more than two miles and gain more than 1,600 feet in elevation.
Plus, you will want to watch your step. This trail can become quite rocky and it is easy to fall.

However, if you are up for the challenge, this trail will make you fall in love with Utah’s natural beauty all over again. Along the trail, you will have several stream crossings.
If hiking during the spring, we suggest bringing an extra pair of shoes or socks. While there are features to help you cross the streams, the spring runoff can make it much harder to stay dry.
The inclines on this trail will make you slow down and appreciate nature. Stop and enjoy the views, listen to the birds, and even pick a few wildflowers along your way.
At approximately two miles into the trail, you will come to the Horsetail Falls Overlook. Here, the views are stunning. Not only will you enjoy remarkable mountain views, but you will also see Horsetail Falls in the distance.
If you wish, this can be your final destination and it is a good place to turn around. But, if you hike another 0.5 miles, you will reach the base of the waterfall.
Horsetail Falls will leave you mesmerized the minute you arrive. There are rocks surrounding the falls, creating the perfect seats for you to stop, relax, and just enjoy the waterfall finish. You may even want to bring lunch and spend a little extra time here.
Stream crossings, views, waterfalls — this trail combines many of our favorite features to create a picture-perfect day outdoors. It is one challenge that you'll be glad you tackled.
If you are planning to hike Horsetail Falls, we suggest tackling this trail early in the day as this area can become quite busy. The first portion of the trail is not shaded so bring water and sunscreen as well.
