I love the small towns that dot Utah. From desert towns in southern Utah to mountain towns in the north, there are so many incredible places to explore. While many of these charming small towns are just a short drive away from most cities, there are a few remote towns that are also worth the drive. Hanksville, Utah is one town that may seem completely out of the way, but if you want to disconnect and escape reality for a day or two, this is a must-visit destination.
Hanksville is an extremely small town in Wayne County. In fact, fewer than 200 people call this town home.
For example, this remote town in Utah is near bucket-list-worthy destinations like Goblin Valley State Park, Capitol Reef National Park, and Canyonlands National Park.
If you are up for a challenge, tackle the 5.6-mile Mount Ellen Peak Trail. This hiking trail takes you up the tallest mountain peak in the Henry Mountains. This trail is hard and definitely not for beginner hikers but there’s a feeling of accomplishment after you conquer your journey — and the views are breathtaking.
