We all need a little bit of peace and quiet in our lives, and you can find plenty of spots throughout the Beehive State for both. Whether you’d like to take a stroll through a developed garden in the middle of a city, or drive to a remote location far away from people, Utah’s got you covered.
Here are nine of our favorite go-to spots when we just want to take a break from it all:
1. Red Butte Garden, Salt Lake City
Take a quiet stroll through 21 acres of developed gardens at Red Butte Garden. It's located on the University of Utah campus, and in addition to its peaceful scenery, it offers some incredible views of the Salt Lake Valley.
2. Natural Bridges National Monument, Lake Powell
Utah's first National Monument features three natural bridges: Kachina, Owachomo, and Sipapu. It was also the very first International Dark Sky Park, and it's an incredible place to visit if you want to gaze at a star-filled sky.
3. Wind Cave, Logan Canyon
The hike up to Wind Cave is four miles out and back, and it's moderately strenuous, but the gorgeous views from the cave make the effort worth it. This trail is especially pretty in the fall, when the autumn leaves blaze with bright colors all throughout the canyon.
4. Cascade Springs, Provo
Take the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway to reach Cascade Springs, a little oasis tucked amongst the rolling hills. Fed by a natural spring, the pools and little waterfalls here provide pretty scenery as you make your way along the half-mile trail.
5. Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument truly is grand, and with more than 1 million acres to explore, you can certainly find peace and quiet here.
6. Antelope Island, Great Salt Lake
If wildlife viewing and quiet hikes with stunning views are your idea of a peaceful, relaxing day, head to Antelope Island. As expected, you'll likely see pronghorn antelope, but the island is also home to a large herd of bison. Take one of the many hiking trails on the island to explore it.
7. Deseret Peak, Stansbury Mountains
The highest peak in the Stansbury Mountain, Deseret Peak stands at 11,035 feet. It's not as popular as some of Utah's other peaks, so you'll likely have the 7.4-mile trail (and these views!) all to yourself.
8. Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, Brigham City
There's nothing like spending a quiet afternoon at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. The refuge covers 74,000 acres, and is home to millions of migratory birds every year. Stop by in the winter months to see bald eagles and tundra swans.
9. Red Hills Desert Garden, St. George
This charming little five-acre garden in St. George contains 5,000 water-efficient plants, and the 1,150-foot-long stream that winds through the garden is stocked with native fish. Check out the 200 million-year-old dinosaur tracks, and see a replica of a slot canyon here, too.
This list doesn’t even come close to covering all the wonderful, peaceful spots around Utah. What are some of your favorites? Tell us in the comments!
