Aspiration Trail is a 2.4-mile out-and-back trail in St. George. You’ll find the trailhead off Pioneer Road and Sugar Leo Road.

This trail is considered moderate in difficulty as it can be slick and rocky and you will climb more than 500 feet in elevation as you make your way to the summit. If you are unstable, it is wise to bring hiking poles for sure footing.

But just a short drive away, tucked inside Zion National Park, is one of the most dangerous hikes in Utah — Angels Landing in Zion National Park. This is a trail that is best suited for experienced hikers. Below are a few things to keep in mind about the Angels Landing hike:

  • The top of Angels Landing is approximately 1,500 feet above the valley floor.
  • From the top, you can enjoy views of Zion Canyon.
  • You do need to receive a permit to use this trail and reservations must be made in advance.
  • The trail is 2.5 miles long one way and begins at the Grotto near the Virgin River.
  • There are more than 20 switchbacks on this trail. They are known as Walter’s Wiggles.
