Utah’s historic buildings are treasures from the past. Many of them serve different purposes than they did when they were first constructed, but the willingness of their owners to adapt and change has kept them standing.
Downtown Salt Lake City is the home of many grand, historic buildings, and the New York Hotel is one of our favorites.
The New York Hotel on 48 West Market Street in downtown Salt Lake City, was built in 1906. It was designed by architect R.K.A. Kletting, who also designed the Utah State Capitol.
In the 1970s, the grand hotel was sold and remodeled to be an office building with a restaurant on the main level. It was the home of The New Yorker steakhouse for years.
Today, this grand old building still stands. The original hotel sign graces the building, and its top two floors still serve as office space.
It's home to Market Street Grill and Market Street Oyster Bark - both of which are the best places to get seafood in the Beehive State. Both restaurants were opened in the early 1980s.
Market Street flies its seafood in fresh, daily. From Alaskan Halibut to Gulf shrimp to Hawaiian Ahi tuna, the top-quality seafood comes from all over the country.
Everything on the menu is divine. Share a shrimp cocktail or an order of oysters, then enjoy a delicious entree of crab, salmon, or fish & chips.
Market Street Grill is a family-friendly restaurant that's perfect for a midday lunch or a celebration dinner; Market Street Oyster Bar offers the same menu, but also has a full bar. It's for guests 21 and older.
Market Street Grill is open seven days a week. The downtown location serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the Market Street Oyster Bar offers Sunday brunch, weekday lunches, and dinner seven nights a week.
Market Street Grill and Market Street Grill have three locations: downtown Salt Lake City, Cottonwood, and South Jordan. Visit the restaurant’s website to see the full menu and hours at each location. You’ll also want to follow its Facebook page for more mouthwatering seafood photos.
