The places we remember from our childhood rarely stay the same as we get older – businesses change and modernize as time goes by. While many of the stores and restaurants we visited in our youth are vastly different today, there’s one little shop in Roosevelt, Utah that still offers some of the nostalgic charm of the 20th century. Check out Marion’s Variety:
The little town of Roosevelt is home to around 7,000 people. It's located near Vernal in eastern Utah, and it has the kind of hometown vibe that's hard to find these days.
The town's Main Street still has some quaint local shops, and one of the most cherished is Marion's Variety, which opened in 1933. Some of the residents here still remember buying penny candy from the original owner, Marion Mortensen, who retired in 1969.
The shop has new owners now, but it still offers some of that vintage charm. In the back of the shop, you'll find an old-fashioned soda fountain and a few booths with red vinyl benches.
Like any proper soda fountain, this one offers delicious ice cream treats and thick shakes made the old-fashioned way - one at a time with a milkshake mixer in large, metal cups.
...but the chocolate cake is usually offered, and you won't want to pass it up. Take a slice with you for later. Marion's also has a selection of homemade pies every day.
