The French know food, and they’re famous for their incredible cuisine and decadent desserts. We might be 5,000 miles from Paris, but we have an amazing bakery right here in Salt Lake City that offers some delicious, authentic French pastries. Check out Les Madeleines:
For a taste of France right here in Utah, visit Les Madeleines in Salt Lake City. This bakery got its start in 2003, and it's been a foodie favorite ever since.
Address: 216 East 500 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84111
You'll be in bakery heaven the moment you step in the door. The aromas of fresh-baked bread and sugar fill the air, and the case is brimming with possibilities.
The little macarons are still a favorite here, and they come in lots of different flavors. They're soft and sweet, and filled with the most delicious ganache. These little gems will melt in your mouth.
You absolutely must try the Kouign Amann. This delicious confection originally hails from Brittany, France, and Les Madeleines was the first bakery west of the Mississippi to offer it.
It's made with dough that's folded in layers, like a croissant. The delicate layers are loaded with butter and fleur de sel, a salt from the Brittany region.
The result? A laminated pastry with a wonderful crunch on the outside, and a tender, flaky interior with a salted caramel flavor. Give one a try, and you'll see why Les Madeleines is famous for this scrumptious confection.
It's pronounced "queen a-mahn," and it's the kind of thing that most home bakers can't accomplish without a lot of experience. The Kouign Amann at Les Madeleines will spoil you for any others.
You might remember that we told you to order several pastries. In addition to the Kouign Amann, you're certain to find many other favorites in the bakery case. You can't go wrong with filled brioche donuts...
During summer months, the place to enjoy your treats is on the shady patio. Visit Les Madeleines Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday til 5:30 p.m.
Learn more about Les Madeleines on its website, and make sure to follow its Facebook page to see the latest sweet treats. Have you tried the French pastries from this bakery? Tell us about your favorite pastry!
