Utah’s small towns are as varied as its landscape; some were built as mining towns; some thrive near Utah’s national parks, others just offer plenty to see and do throughout the year. The little town of Huntsville is a lovely, rural town that has some of the best outdoor recreation in the state.
Huntsville is a pretty, rural community with fewer than 800 residents. It's tucked up in Ogden Valley, surrounded by mountains, and it has plenty to see and do year-round.
The town was founded in 1860, and it still has that small-town feel, while welcoming thousands of visitors who flock there to enjoy its outdoor recreation.
The town park is a great place to enjoy a stroll or picnic. Let the kids burn off some energy on the playground, or sit on a bench and enjoy a book.
During winter months, the town turns part of the park into an outdoor ice rink! You can rent skates on Tuesday nights and all day Saturday.
Take the Green Pond Trail for some pretty scenery.
The trail is just 2.9 miles, out and back, and it's an easy trail that's dog and kid-friendly. During warm months, you'll share the trail with mountain bikes, so be prepared to give them some room. In the winter, strap on some snowshoes to make your way to the frozen pond.
Go skiing at Snowbasin Resort.
Snowbasin is a world-class resort with 3,000 acres of terrain for skiers and boarders of all abilities. The resort hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics, and it's absolutely beautiful up there. The resort typically hosts outdoor events like free concerts during summer months, too.
Pineview Reservoir offers all kinds of recreation, from fishing and boating...
...to beaches, swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, and more!
Stop by Detours to rent some toys.
Detours offers stand-up paddleboards, cruiser bikes, kayaks, and canoes so you can explore the town and reservoir.
Pineview is also a great spot for anglers. You might pull a rainbow trout, bluegill, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, yellow perch, or carp out of its depths.
After a day of skiing, playing on the reservoir, or exploring town, you'll want to grab a burger and a pint at Shooting Star Saloon.
It's the oldest continuously-operating bar in the Beehive State, and one of the oldest in the Western U.S.
