In addition to being a small town in Utah with a population of just under 800 residents, Huntsville is a rural community that’s also rich in history. Founded by Jefferson Hunt, a brigadier who was a part of the American Army’s Mormon Battalion, Huntsville is now known as a tiny rural town with lots to learn and do. And since Huntsville is only an hour north of Salt Lake City, (on 1-15 North) it’s a great destination for a day trip too.
As you drive to (and through) Huntsville, make sure to have your camera ready to take shots of the stunning scenery from the road.
You'll even be surrounded by history when you chow down at Shooting Star Saloon. Established in 1879, this restaurant is the longest operating saloon that's west of the Mississippi.
For some "real life" history, take some time to wander the Huntsville Cemetery too. Along with reading the different tombstones, you'll get to soak in the breathtaking scenery in this small town.
In addition to learning about Huntsville’s history when you visit the town during your day trip, check out this article for additional ideas of what you can do while exploring this small town in Utah.
