Utah is filled with hidden gems. Some of these are fairly easy to see, while others require a bit of an effort to enjoy. At the end of one hiking trail near Farmington, there is a hidden gem that not many people know of — a mystical natural grotto, multiple waterfalls, and a pool of water. However, despite the incredible payoff at the end of this trail, you must be willing to put in the work.
To reach this natural grotto, you will begin at the Stead Creek Trailhead. You will find this trailhead off of Little Valley Road east of Farmington.
The trail to the grotto is actually an offshoot of the Stead Creek Trail. It is recommended you take a trail map with you to ensure you find the right trail and pay close attention to all signs on your journey to prevent becoming lost.
This is a short 2.3-miles out-and-back trail. It is also considered moderately challenging as there are some areas where the trail becomes very narrow and steep. This Utah hiking trail is not ideal for smaller children.
The journey is quite beautiful. The trail will take you into Hornet Canyon. Along the way, you will not only capture gorgeous canyon and mountain views, but you’ll also enjoy remarkable city views as well.
Bring some water shoes as you’ll have to complete a few shallow creek crossings. You also won’t want to forget sun protection as large stretches of this trail are in the sun. Also, as you hike, make sure to watch your step. There are many reports of snakes on and off this trail.
Once you reach the end of the trail, the challenging hike will be worth every step. There are two small waterfalls for you to enjoy that fall into a pool of water.
Have you ever been to this mystical grotto up Hornet Canyon near Farmington? If so, what were some of your favorite parts of this trail? We’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments!
