What’s for lunch? If you’re craving a tasty deli sandwich, and you’ve got a big appetite, we have just the deli for you. Check out Grove Market. It’s the oldest deli in Utah, and after just one bite, you’ll surely be in sandwich heaven.
In 1945, Greek immigrant Pete Savas decided to build a small market that would be a family business for his young sons to eventually take over. This photo shows Pete looking at the land that where he later built Grove Market.
In 1947, Grove Market opened. It offered fresh produce and grocery items, and quickly became a cherished part of the neighborhood.

Pete Savas passed away in 1957, but his sons did indeed take over the market, and the Savas family still runs it today. This wonderful photo shows Pete with his young son Jim in 1949.
Over the years, Grove Market has grown and changed. In the early 1970s, the deli was created inside. Grove Market is the oldest continuously operating deli in the state, and if you don't already know about this hidden gem, you're going to want to visit soon.
The deli is located near the back of the market. Step right up to the counter and place your order.
Hopefully you're hungry, because these sandwiches are huge! The full sized sandwiches are offered on a large ambassador roll - it's almost the size of a loaf of bread!
The sandwiches are piled high with meats, cheeses, and veggies. All the ingredients are top-quality, and as fresh as can be.
There are 16 different sandwiches on the menu, so you're certain to find one that you fancy.
The Big John is the favorite of customers with big appetites. It includes seven deli meats, Swiss and American cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, and pickles.
The market also has plenty of other treats to accompany your sandwich. Choose a bag of chips, a cookie or candy bar, and a soda.
You can even enjoy a cold beer with your sandwich.
The market still offers fresh produce, so you can supplement your lunch with a crunchy apple or sweet, juicy orange.
Visit Grove Market Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
