There’s a magical place in Utah that’s a resting spot for millions of migrating birds every year, and you can explore it by walking on the boardwalks right over the marsh. Check out the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve:
The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve is located on the eastern banks of the lake in Layton. It covers 4,400 acres that include wetlands and uplands, and you can explore it on the boardwalk trails.
You can visit year-round, from sunrise to sunset. There's no charge to explore this beautiful sanctuary. The Visitor Center is open every day March through October from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; November through February from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The boardwalks stretch out across the upland grasses and marshy ponds as far as your eye can see. It's a pleasant stroll, but you'll want to make sure to bring sunscreen, water, and insect repellent for the best outdoor experience.
...to raptors that blend right in with their surroundings. You'll want to keep an eye on the sky, and on the ponds and fields beside you as you make your journey around the boardwalks.
Make sure to explore the outdoor pavilion, which has all kinds of information about the preserve and its inhabitants. You might also want to download the free audio tour that will guide you along the boardwalks and point out some of the features along the way.
The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve is a favorite for bird-watchers, nature lovers, and enthusiast explorers of all ages. Make plans now to visit this spot!
