Utah has a seemingly endless variety of hiking trails. From tough trails with stunning views, to hikes so easy your grandma can come along, there’s something for everyone. There are even trails to enjoy with your dog, and this hike is a pup’s paradise.
You can reach Dog Lake from the Lower Bigwater Trailhead in Millcreek Canyon.
The trail is rated as moderate. It has an elevation gain of 1,276 feet, and you'll encounter rocks and tree roots that require some careful navigation.
The best thing about this trail? You can bring your dog! The trails in Millcreek Canyon are dog-friendly, and this one is no exception. You might want to visit on an odd-numbered day, when dogs are allowed off-leash. On even-numbered days, bikes are allowed on this trail, and you're required to keep your pup tethered close to avoid collisions.
At the end of the hike, a pretty alpine lake awaits, but this lake is a little different than others you might hike to in Big or Little Cottonwood Canyons.
Make sure to clean up after your pup, both on the trail and at the lake, so that other dog owners can also enjoy this experience.
