Heber has long been well-known for its scenic train rides on the Heber Valley Railroad. Here’s a train-themed restaurant that’s fun for the whole family!
Dairy Keen opened in 1946. This family-owned restaurant is a popular place that's fun for both kids and adults. You'll find it at 199 W. Main Street in Heber.
There's a reason this place calls itself "Home of the train..." there's a train running on a track near the ceiling!
The train was first installed at the previous location back in 1984, as an homage to the Heber Creeper, (now the Heber Valley Railroad).
Kids and adults alike love to watch this model train make its rounds around the restaurant.
The historic scenes depict the Heber Valley and its history, starting with the valley's Native Americans and celebrating the valley through time. Take a look at some of the details, including the Mawhinney Cafe, the family's first restaurant that was built in 1946.
Dairy Keen has eight train engines. Because they run all day long every day, the engines have to be switched out every two weeks so that they can be serviced and maintained.
At Christmas, a special train makes an appearance, with Santa as the conductor.
The model train isn't the only draw here. Spend some time playing with the Brio train set.
Kids love this train, but let's be honest...the adults love it almost as much.
Lego tables will also keep you busy while you wait for your food.
When the weather's nice, you can eat outside at the train tables.
While the trains make this place fun, the burgers draw crowds, too. They're delicious!
Try the Trainburger, which comes with a quarter pound beef patty, ham, American cheese and special Train Sauce. Top off your meal with an order of onion rings, side salad and a thick, frosty shake.
If you're really, really hungry, order the Train Wreck.
This massive burger includes a quarter pound beef patty, fried chicken fillet, sliced ham, bacon, three onion rings, lettuce, tomato, pickle and Train Sauce.
You absolutely must get a shake while you're here.
These shakes are super thick and so good that you'll definitely need to save room for one. They've won Best of State for shakes or frozen desserts almost every single year since 2003!
The homemade soup is made daily from scratch. The menu changes monthly, and there's always a daily soup special.
The chili will also warm you right up. Soup and chili is available October through March.
The next time you're in Heber, you've got to stop at Dairy Keen.
It's open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 10 PM; closed Sunday.
