The Great Wall of China is more than 13,000 miles long, and was built over centuries. To see the real thing, you’ll need to hop on an airplane and visit China. Or, you can see a cool rock formation right here in Logan Canyon that looks like a miniature version. Take a look:
Take a drive along Highway 89 up Logan Canyon, and you can catch glimpses of China Wall high above the road. While it looks a bit like the Great Wall of China, Logan Canyon's China Wall is just a long rock cliff that stretches out on the side of the mountain. You can see how it got its nickname.
To see China Wall up close (and walk right on top of it), take the Crimson Trail. You'll find it near the mouth of the canyon at Spring Hollow Campground, just 4.3 miles from Logan. The trail is considered moderate, and it's steep in some places so make sure you have hiking boots with good tread and plenty of water.
The trail curves right around the top of the wall and in some spots it's right up against the edge of the cliff. Be careful in these sections - it's a long way down. Keep a close eye on kids and pets if you're bringing them along.
The views from this trail make the effort well worth it. You'll want to stop frequently to soak them in (and it will totally seem like you're just gazing at the scenery while you catch your breath). The elevation change during this hike is a respectable 1,374, so there's no shame in taking a rest break or two.
Have you hiked the Crimson Trail? If you’d like to see what it’s like on another planet without leaving the Beehive State, you might want to visit this state park.
