It doesn’t matter what the weather is outside, you can immerse yourself in nature and meet some fluttery new friends when you visit Butterfly Biosphere, Utah’s only butterfly house. Located at Thanksgiving Point, this massive butterfly house is where you can view thousands of live butterflies from around the world, check out hundreds of unique insects, and even help butterflies during their first flight. It’s one family-friendly attraction that is going to inspire you in so many ways.
The Butterfly Biosphere is just one of the many attractions at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi. It is open year-round and is a destination you’ll find yourself visiting time and time again.
This building features tall glass walls, letting in ample natural sunlight. You’ll see all types of plants, ponds, and other remarkable features — it is hard to believe that you are indoors.

The conservatory is home to thousands of live butterflies from around the world. When you don’t see the butterflies flying around, you’ll likely find them on the plants or some may even land on your finger.
Mid-day is the best time to visit if you wish to see the butterflies active. The activity level of these creatures slowly decreases throughout the afternoon. However, if you want to capture incredible photos of butterflies, evenings are best as many are at rest and the huge owl butterflies come out.
During the Butterfly Release experience, you can work with an entomologist to release new butterflies into the conservatory. These experiences are offered on certain days and times and require a small fee.
However, butterflies aren’t the only creatures you will see at the Butterfly Biosphere. This attraction is also home to hundreds of insects.
You can even see what it takes to be a scientist who studies insects, also known as an entomologist. During this activity, you can receive a tour of an entomologist lab, participate in the butterfly release, and more.
And that's just the beginning. There are family-friendly activities throughout the entire week including Tales for Tots, a hands-on storytelling activity, and Critter Encounters, where you can get up close to many creatures and maybe even get a chance to hold a bug.
The Butterfly Biosphere is open Monday through Saturday. You can purchase a ticket to the biosphere itself or purchase the Explorer Pass, which gives you admission into all five venues at Thanksgiving Point on a single day.
Another popular attraction at Thanksgiving Point that is worth a visit is the Museum of Natural Curiosity. This is essentially a large family-friendly indoor playground with endless places to play.
