Utah is a popular vacation destination. With so many incredible national parks, campgrounds, and small towns to visit, it is easy for Utahns and out-of-state guests to find someplace incredible to explore. But, according to recent findings by WalletHub, Salt Lake City residents don’t have to travel far for a vacation to remember. Utah’s capital city was named one of the best cities for staycations in America and we aren’t surprised. Here’s why.
WalletHub compared cities across the nation on 42 key metrics including swimming pools per capita, parks per capita, biking and walking scores, food and entertainment, and of course, rest and relaxation options. Salt Lake City ranked number five with Tampa, Las Vegas, Orlando, and Honolulu just slightly beating it.
WalletHub also looked at things like museums, zoos, aquariums, festivals, and even movie costs. And with all that it looked at, we aren’t surprised that this Utah city is one of the best destinations for staycations in America because there truly is so much to do.
This 42-acre zoo is home to hundreds of animals, offers unforgettable wildlife encounters, and hosts exciting events throughout the year. You could easily spend an entire day at this zoo or just visit for an afternoon. Either way, you’ll love your time here.

You can also spend some time outdoors at one of the many parks in Salt Lake City. Liberty Park, Memory Grove Park, and City Creek Park are just a few of the parks you’ll want to check out.
If you love history, spend an entire day visiting the many historical sites in SLC. You can take a tour of historic Temple Square, explore This is the Place Heritage Park, or go shopping at Trolley Square.
