Are you fascinated by spiders? If so, we’ve got the perfect day trip for you! Every year, Antelope Island is crawling with millions of spiders. Check it out:
If you haven't visited Antelope Island yet this summer, you might want to add it to your August itinerary.
You're probably most familiar with the herd of bison who live here, but the island also has pronghorn, bighorn sheep, mule deer, coyotes, porcupine, badgers...oh, and in August...a few million spiders.
Why so many spiders? In August, the brine flies hatch, and at their peak, there are billions and billions of these pesky little flies. The spiders are waiting patiently in their webs for the brine fly feast.
Antelope Island State Park hosts an annual Spider Festival every year. In 2019, the festival was held on August 3rd, so it's already over, but the park rangers will still be happy to tell you all about the eight-legged residents who are busy gobbling up all the brine flies they can catch.
